IMPORTANT

Oil and water must be check daily to maintain the smooth and effective operation of the generator.

Step 1

Turn off emergency lighting by turning the key to the ‘off’ position on the control box behind the door in the boiler room in the house

Step 2

Turn off the fire alarm system by turning the key to the ‘off’ position on the side of the control panel just next to the back door to the outside from the kitchen. The panel will start to ‘beep’.

Step 3

Move to the generator shed and locate the ‘Duty Switch’ located in the door and on the fuse panel on the left hand side. Turn this switch from position ‘1’ to ‘Off’.

Step 4

Find the generator ignition key behind the clear panel on the right hand side of the generator and turn to stop the generator.

Step 5

Check the oil by lifting the left hand side inspection panel and locating the dipstick (low right as you face the engine) remove, clean with a rag and replace to dip for the oil. The oil should be topped up to the top notch (full). Overfilling may damage the engine but failing to fill to the top mark may cause the engine to overheat. Filling is done via the cap facing outwards and up on the left hand side as you look at the engine. The cap has a small chain attached and MUST be replaced after filling.

Step 6

Check water level by opening the radiator cap by accessing it from above using the small inspection cover (normally left open). It should be full. If not then place the funnel into the radiator from underneath and fill from above using container there. Water can be found in the milk churns outside the garage. Ensure the cap is replace after filling.

Step 7

Check the water and oil filler caps, close the inspection door on the left then start the generator by turning the ignition key.

Step 8

Wait 1 minute then turn the ‘duty switch’ to ‘1’. You will hear the generator start to work.

Step 9

Return to the house and reset the fire alarms by turning the key to ‘on’, opening the front panel and pressing ‘reset’. The beeping should stop.

Step 10

Return to the boiler room and turn the emergency lighting back on by turning the key to the ‘on’ position
